Identify the ring-shaped aircraft in the photo.

That's awfully green grass for New Years. Wonder if the whole thing is a practical joke. I enlarged the shot and it looked like they were pusher aircraft but there didn't look to be enough room between the booms for a prop. All of the the little people like objects around the front 4 disc aircraft didn't appear to be people when enlarged unless they were all dressed in white.

I guess all the identical looking cubs and some of the other aircraft that seem to appear multiple times and that all of the circular craft looked identical should have been a good hint among other things. www.avweb.com/newswire/11_01b/potw/188907-1.html

Look again -- a collage of multiple repetitions of the various a/c, shot from a limited # of angles & artfully placed in different locations. There are a few singles mixed in with the repos to add "realism". Nicely done though.
It still doesn't answer the question -- what is/are the flying saucers?

I have no doubt that it is a gag photo, but the ring airplanes look like likely candidates to be the darlings of Popular Mechanics magazine. I think I have seen one somewhere, just can't remember enuf to look it up in google.

Anyone else notice that the shadows are pointing in different directions??
...and the "people" don't got no shadows, but the airplanes do... ?!

Here's the caption from the photo- "Flying Saucers Welcome!" This one treads the fine line between "Picture of the Week" and "Art Piece of the Week," but Mark Murdock's artist's rendition of a fly-in at his "home field" seemed like a good place to say "Happy New Year" to "POTW" submitters. ... .
I guess it still doesn't mean for certain that the circular aircraft weren't copied from a real full size plane, but I haven't seen one yet. I hope there is one.
