What style of head gasket does this engine take? Is it a full width, thick fiber gasket that includes the screw holes or is it a narrow fiber/metal gasket that only covers the protruding cylinder liner? Thanx in advance for your help.

Given the year of the engine, I would guess that it would be a wide fiber gasket with screw holes. I have no actual knowledge of this.

I thought the same thing so I made a full width one and it seems to work properly. The engine has excellent compression. Thanx for your input on the gasket.

With a new gasket, the engine must be run, the head retightened and run and tightened again. The fiber compresses quite a bit before it stabilizes. If this is not done, the gasket will blow.
