To ban a major source of gun imports. The Russia sanctions included the Kalashnikov concern, which means most of the arms coming out of Russia are now forbidden to us. Whats worse, more than many people know, is the factories consolidated over there, so while everyone is focusing on Izhmash and the Saiga rifles, which have been very popular, the higher end Vepr and Arsenal are now going to dry up. Basically any Russian based AK is now banned. This what happened to Chinese imports, which started out just like this, a temporary sanction, that was later signed into a permanent import ban. I look for an EO about ammo next, thiugh they have to be careful because they are still buying from them for Afghanistan.
There is still Serbian manufacturing, but there is no denying the availability of AK has just tightened considerably probably having more effect at home than in Russia, and for no real effect on Russia, they will still destabilize and annex part of the Ukraine regardless.

Every time I go to the gun shows around here there are virtual truckloads of AKs laying all over the tables. I think I saw ONE of them bought during the 3 hours or so I spent walking around. The pricing is what's killing them. When the SKS shot up in price, most of these dealers figured hey, why not the AKs too? Dramatic rises in prices next time they rolled into town and as a result I saw a lot of guys walk away from the table once they laid eyes on the pricetag.
I don't foresee it effecting availability of those rifles any time soon around here unless of course they get sold and shipped elsewhere.
That being said, I don't agree with the ban and like every other thing this admin does, it's totally disconnected to reality and serves only to soothe the temperament of people who imagine this is going to tip some scale somewhere in Russia and bring them back begging to be pals again. Who outside this administration believes Putin is going to break a sweat over a move like that? If anything they'll just follow Egypt's lead and take the metal detectors to Kerry next time he shows up over there. I'm surprised the metal bolts in his neck didn't set off the Egyptian ones.
When foreign policy amateurs go up against determined, experienced hard-ball playing diplomats, the amateurs always lose. Little wonder why their pipe dream of being friends with everyone and being respected by everyone is exactly the opposite of what's happening in reality. We're pissing off every ally we have and giving the appearance of waffling in the face of our determined enemies.

With all the shi-ite this regime of twisted children has perpetrated, you have to KNOW that some of it, however ludicrous, is Galvin's Boy not letting a good crisis go to waste.
I'm reading where even some "trusted" news sources are seeing the early signs of a middle-class revolt, not the violent upheaval that the curb-jockey class will erupt into once their keepers shut off the obamaphones and disallow gambling with the ebt cards, but a massive cessation of compliance. The former will be treated as victims of GWB and his evil oil buddies, the latter with force. I still cannot find a box of .22lr within 150 miles of me. That is intentional too. I've given up on the idiotic idea that market forces are generating the absolute void of this caliber; it's simply the most popular and widely used here, hence supply is shut down. It's been two years now, people are used to it, like $4 a gallon gasoline, $4.50 a gallon of milk.

One of the local sporting goods stores that sells guns and ammo no longer even has a space on the shelf for .22 anything. Goes right from .17 hornet to .25 cal. Used to always be a big gap there and the management, I guess, got tired of wasting space on a product that was never coming or, when it did, was GONE in twenty minutes. I think any that IS manufactured is sent priority to Chicago since the criminal elements are running low and no one wants to see crime go down there (it would be wasting a crisis).

Its funny, some places see none, some places have it all the time. Cabelas had some the last couple times I was in. Cheyenne Sportsmans warehouse had some finally that did not sell out right away. local stores including Walmart, FUGGETABOUTIT. Now they are working to shut off the supply of steel cased import ammo, but have to be careful because they are buying that as well.

Gander Mountain opened a new store here back in the spring. Many people lined up for what they hoped was a new source of rimfire ammo and were disappointed when they didn't have any. When they got some in, some guys were expecting to dump down a wad of cash and leave with a truckload of it - but they didn't have that much and put tight restrictions on how much you could buy. Then it was, if I remember right, a 2 or 3 box limit. Now they have generously raised the limit to 10 boxes, however they don't have any to sell so it doesn't really matter.
What I've found when I see any on shelves is you can either have the most expensive CCI rounds or you can have the stuff that no one would touch were it not for the shortage. You know, the stuff with black spots and maybe even mold all over the nasty looking brass, looks like it'll come apart in the chamber for sure. And there is very little difference in price between them. A couple gun shows ago there was one guy selling "bulk bags" of .22, and I looked at one of them and it was a hodge-podge of many different types, from el cheapo to CCI. Looks like the guy was determined to have bulk bags for sale so he just dumped a few rounds in each bag from whatever boxes he had on hand. What really amazed me was the price was actually higher than if you bought the equivalent number of rounds all in the most expensive CCI stuff available. So no bargain there but boy you should have seen all the guys scooping it up.
Sure has cut down on those guys who show up at the range with 25 or 30 of the 25-round Ruger bananas and want to tie up a table all morning just capping them off. Now they maybe shoot one or two plus the 10-run mag that came with the gun and leave.

When 22s are available here it's one box per customer.

There is no doubt its still scarce compared to pre panic, but it is getting better. It is more money, much more in some cases even through retail. The private market is still ridiculous to absurd. But its out there to be had now, which is more than I could say 5 months ago. palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ammunition/rimfire-ammunition.htmlI have been shooting CCI standard velocity because the Remington subsonic is nonexistent right now, which is usually what I run. CCI stuff is very accurate, and the standard velocity is as well or more so.
