I slopped a coat of polyurethane on this thing and took it out to fly today. I forgot to drain the tank after the last crash, so there was week old fuel still in the tank. I topped it off and flew a ragged flight. Next 2 flights was on 20% nitro. I changed the prop for the third flight.

I changed the engine back tonight to the Johnson Combat Special. It should be enough power.

The combat special proved to be more than enough power. It flies more like a combat plane that anything else.

After being down 4 months, I flew the Galaxy today 3 flights. The first flight was perfect except it sucked up the fuel load by the time I was ready to do the triangles. I leaned it out for the second flight, too lean. the engine seized. Burned out an Enya plug. The third flight, The engine refused to respond to the needle, but like a fool I went for it anyway. After 6 laps it went rich and I planted it with only a broken prop. Now to clean out the entire fuel system. Apparently 4 months is too long for the airplane to be down too.

I keep having trouble keeping the Johnson CS running. I think this one is the engine I got that was unrun. They are a real animal to break in. I'll have to try another engine.

The Galaxy now has a rebuilt Super Tigre G 21 46 with a Bowman ring and new cylinder. The compression is a little low, but it should pick up as it gets some time on it. It should have plenty of power. Prop is a Bolly 10.5 x 6. Nose weight has been removed.
UPDATE: Put 4 runs up today. First start was rough, each successive start got better. Good run, good mileage. I may need to play musical props. I'm thinking I might start with a 12 x 6 wide blade prop cut to 10 x 6 and see what happens.

I had picked up a batch of antique props a while back so I cut one of them back from 11" to 10" then balanced it. It looks like about 7" pitch but it's not marked. It shouldn't overload the 46. I hope it works. I have several of them. It's now on the Galaxy/G21 46.

The cut down antique prop was a heavy load bordering on overload. It got broken in a pancake crash. I will have to cut the next one down to 9". The next pancake crash broke an RSM 10-6. I need to check the CG on this thing.

3 more flights today. Used 3 different props. Best flight was a cut down TF 11-6. Best engine run used a tornado 10-6 nylon. Cyclone 11-4.5 was not as good.

Put up 2 flights today. Had a hard time getting a setting. Third attempt was a no go. When I got home, I found a broken fuel line and a restricted filter. I replaced the broken line and will clean the filter later. I may change the needle too.

Today I put up 4 flights on the Galaxy/G21 46. On the last flight, I installed a Cyclone 11-4.5 prop. Setting turned out too rich. It also goes too lean on the outside loops. More tank work on the replacement tank.

I had one like that in which it would go lean on outsides. Wound up moving the tank down on the fuselage. The guys didn't believe me until I flew the plane.

Today I capped the vent instead of the uniflo. It helped. On the third flight, I got a pancake crash, another broken fuselage.

On examining the wreck, I found a broken strand on one of the leadouts. More work. This thing has gotten too heavy from too many fuselage repairs. It needs another overhaul. I need the measurements from the original fuselage.
UPDATE: I went ahead and ordered a new fuselage from Brodak. I hope it survives shipment. Not much does here.
UPDATE 2: The fuselage is here. It has the worst balsa machining I have ever seen.

Brodak is sending a replacement fuselage. I hope it's better.
UPDATE: Replacement fuselage is here. It is not perfect, but is far better. Now I can proceed.
