Dr. Thomerson, could you please enlighten us as to the difference between the two 527 organizations "Moveon.org" and "Swiftboat Veterans for Truth" in the context of why they should be treated any differently with regard to the election laws of the United States of America?

I wouldn't have a clue. I presume the two mentioned organizations have different political objectives. Because the President is running on his record, I have seen little need to follow the campaign.

Actually, Moveon.org's stated objective is to defeat Bush and the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth have stated their objective as twofold...to expose what really happened in Vietnam (contrary to Kerry's portrayal of their misdeeds and then continuous vascillation ever since his discharge) and to defeat Kerry in the upcoming election. Hence, 527 organizations' political objectives appear to be the same.
Yet the dems object to the Swifties doing to their candidate what Moveon.org is trying to do to Bush. Both are 527 organizations and both are engaged in the same activities (advertising and fundraising).
Can anyone else clarify why the dems have a problem with the Swifties but not Moveon.org? I really would like some help understanding why they are claiming it is unfair to smear a presidential candidate with a 527 organization, when that is precisely what Moveon.org has been doing to Bush at the behest of the democrats ever since its inception.
