Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that. Did your last turkey come out more like jerky than turkey? Try this. The popcorn, it turns out, is more than just stuffing.
When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not at all sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not to the point of being dried out. Give this a try.
8 - 15 lb. turkey 1 cup melted butter 1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good. So is your favorite.) 1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT has worked well.) Salt/pepper to taste. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.
Listen for the popping sounds. They will usually get louder and louder as the heat gets to the popcorn. Now take cover because once the turkey's ass has blown the oven door open it's done.
Retrieve all the popcorn and stuffing. It's best to not let anyone near the kitchen during this entire cooking process because you'll be putting it all back into the turkey.
And, you thought I didn't cook...
