Paraphrased from the Friday Wall Street Journal...
In order to covince others of his new-found faith which alone brought him through VietNam; Kerry had the DNC appoint a Director of religious outreach, the first they have ever had. It may also be the last since the appointee, The Rev. Brenda Bartella Peterson, was revealed by the Catholic League to have signed a brief supporting removing "Under God" from the pledge of Allegiance. This was on Monday; she resigned on Wednesday. The Kerry campaign had earlier hired one Mara Vanderslice for Director of Religious Outreach. This did not work out well because the same Catholic League pointed out that she was an extreme left wing activist and was more suited to work for Fidel Castro. So far the religious outreach campaign has indentified poverty, hunger, and the environment as the primary religious issues of the campaign.
