This is the first post in this forum in six months. I remember when people would come in here, bench race, and argue like crazy. There was a visceral energy here unlike anywhere else. There was controversy, contentiousness, and the Combat Patrol (self-proclaimed organizational authorities) would snoop around here and backchannel their objections to what went on here. Aaaah...those were the days.
In searching the web, I don't see much happening anywhere with the sport save for some enthusiasm of aged pilots for the slowing down of the planes in the events (the SSC 'Depends' class), a drastically shortened list of legal scale planes, and an even shorter list of participants. Have AMA and MAAC succeeded in killing another niche of the hobby? And perhaps even more importantly, have catapults been revived as a method of launching for those with diminished launching skills?

actually, There is quit a bit going on in MAAC right now. Plank was kicked of one of the committes, it looks like one of our ZD's who refused to help us may be getting the boot, for some "missing, or misued money"and Canada's top combat pilot is selling all his equipment because people won't play by the rules. In one way, I'm sad to see this happening, on the other hand, I predicted it exactly. If you read through all the locked threads on www.rccanada.ca/bb/index.php under the combat section you'll see it. It seems that when people can't win by the rules, they change them. These guys who complained about the large wingspan planes (IL2) and had them banned are now flying the largest wingspan in the class (Ti Tony) These scale purest will also let you scale up a wing to 40" even though it's supposed to be +-10% W.T.F. ? Hopefully I'll be starting a new club this spring. No politics allowed. Bring a plane, shut up and fly.

What you need Patch is a Focke-Wulf Ta 152H A long (very) span development of the FW 190D series. I believe that it has the longest wingspan of any WWII single-engine fighter.

Hopefully I'll be starting a new club this spring. No politics allowed. Bring a plane, shut up and fly. Now you're talking. This is the inverse of what happened in the US where they stopped flying and just *bitch*

Sort of parallels what happened in C/L combat. When speeds got up to over 120mph, and flyaways due to double line cuts became an issue, someone decided to mandate shutoffs. Never mind the device hadn't been invented yet. The closest thing in existance was the ratrace shutoff. not the same thing. The survivors have been chasing their (own) tails ever since.
