Our very own Patch is a leader of men!! ;D Well done! I didn't look at the "other" stuff as you suggested

Hey BritBrat, if Patch can be the points leader with a 161 points/round "best of 6" average, there's even hope for an old fart like you to get in on the action ;D ;D ;D I mean, even this old (but not quite as old as you) fart (moi) has averaged 204 points per round for 20 rounds

I'm working on it. I stuck a LEO .61 in a gremlin, just to get you, but so far its eaten a bird (really) , a bunch of bugs , 2 gallons of fuel , & about 700' of grass . I think that it is potentially supersonic, but it keeps shedding things in flight, so the trips are a bit abrupt. I gave up on the XXX Blue Movie after it peeled its wings off in a snap roll at 100+ mph. So far the gremlin-from-hell is a gigantic handfull at full chat, & a monster pig at a more sedate pace. I'll find the right formula & come gunnin' fer ya! ;D Good ole Canuck Patch can be the referee.

Sure I'll referee. I'm fair, honest and non biast maybe a bit phsyic as well because I already know who is going to win, and it's not the person taking shots at me speaking supersonic speed. I am going to put together a plane that will hold a D size rocket in the rear fuse. I need some ideas from everyone though (other than going to seek professional help) So far I'm thinking about a slim fuse about 18" long. A 38" wing (my old zero wing) 4oz fuel tank coro tail, TT pro 46. I will have onboard ignition to ignite the rocket.

Holy smoke!! OK Keith -- he's as wacky as I am!!! Hey Patch, maybe we can collaborate. ;D You,re going to need a fluid dynamics speciallist (moi), since you're likely to overrun the aerodynamic limits of the engine/prop combo, unless something pretty fancy is cooked up. I think that an engine tuner is a good idea as well! Keith -- this might be the magic bullet -- better run buddy!! ;D

yeah, I am concerned about the engine/prop, but how do I get around that? An electric turbine engine would work, but my cash flow for that doesn't. I do have two ducted fan engines for my GMS B-2 bomber, but I don't think that would provide enough power to take off. I may have to make it a glider. I suppose I could fit the fuse with 3 D-12 rocket engines, but I don't think I want to go that way. Hmm....I'm going to have to open a beer and think about this (I'm a fluid specialist too ;D ) Too bad you didn't live closer, and we could do a joint project.

I think you should consider 17,000 rpm the safe max for the TT (unmodified peak hp @ 16,000 rpm), unless you are going to beef up the conrod & bearings. Prop for a no-load slipstream velocity equal to your estimated top speed. I presume that the engine will be piped, so it will be very rich & grossly overloaded at static & until you get it moving quickly -- probably have to dive it to get the revs up -- then fire the rocket & the engine will hopefully be "on- the-pipe @ 17k when it reaches top speed.
If the slipstream velocity is too low, the prop will act as an airbrake & the engine will over-rev. If you are over-propped, you wont make enough power to accelerate up to the speed where it comes on the pipe.
How fast do you think this thing will go?

I'll be running the TT with the stock pipe/shipping baffle removed. I have no idea how fast this thing will go. I'm hoping to hit 150mph. What do you think for a prop?

A 9-8.5 pylon prop at 17k will give you ~135 mph, if the stock TT will get it there. That might be a realistic top speed with the rocket assist. It will be plenty quick to try & hang on to, as well.

got one on order ;D
I think I'm going to use a wiffle bat for the fuse. The rocket should mount good in the handle
edited for spelling so people don't make fun of me and hurt my feelings. I am very sensitive ;D

Hey Brit-Brat. That Patch challenge is a "no-brainer". We'll cruise around on the sidelines waiting for the "Start combat" horn, then go for his plane before he fires the rocket and grab his streamer. Then he'll get up to such a speed that he won't be able to turn around in the same county. By the time he makes it back, the heat'll be over and the rest of us will have swapped his streamer around about ten times each. He gets 40 points, we each score over a thousand. ;D ;D ;D Bring it on Patch, bring it on Thinking about it, that'd work for you too Pat ;D ;D

how many American beers did it take you to come up with such a scenerio?
The rocket is just to prove to my wife that I truly am an idiot, and that she isn't just imagining it.
I don't need a rocket to compete, I just need some skill.

Since I want to join the fun, I guess it's just Dumb & Dumber.

And Dumber still -- the Gremlin-from-Hell bit the big one in a truly spectacular display of poor judgement. I finally had it more-or-less in the groove & was just plain showing off. We have a 6' berm ~50' on the far side of our runway & it has been growing things -- particularly staghorn sumac bushes. I was doing a very cool supersonic low pass down the runway at god-knows what speed, when one of the sumac bushes had a limb that just up & grew about 10' longer , thusly contacting my right wingtip. Holy instant disintegrating frisbee Batman!! It took an hour to find my LEO .61 engine & some of the smaller bits (there were quite a few) may never be recovered I think that I will give the Super Technology a rest for a bit & concentrate on urging Patch to follow in my footsteps in the search for a Lightning-killer. I'm also going to see my optometrist.

Well son, in truth I said , , , shortly thereafter. BTW, don't tell your mother about us -- it will be one hell of a surprise. Uncle Keith will be somewhat shocked as well ;D

I flew a .25 combat corospit yesterday -- the owner would only let me fly it on low rates -- BORING!!!!!! It needs a serious dose of excitement. Patch's rocket might do the trick

I just got the Uncle Keith part! That's funny! ;D ;D
The owner of the corospit must have been at the field when your radio glitch occured near the bushes.
I need to get started on the rocket plane. (and finish several others) My prop came in and I need to go pick it up next time I'm in London.
