Over the last couple years, there have been a lot of exchanged entrenched opinions about Iraq and what it would become etc.
Yesterday I heard the report of another bombing of an Iraqi police station killing a buch of them. They were lined up to join the police. The report said that over 700 Iraqi police have died since the regime change. Still they line up to become police, they are still volunteering to join the Iraqi military. The Iraqi govt has quietly moved against Al-Sadr who refuses to accept or acknowledge any form of democratic govt, unless it has him as primary leadership.
Now I won't pretend its all roses over there, there are still some serious issues yet to be dealt with, but looking in overview progress is being made to sort out Iraq, and its not all being imposed by the US there is starting to coalesce an independant movement of Iraqis to stabilize their own country. Despite the attempts to counter it, Iraq seem to be realizing its own identity.

The problem with a free Iraq is that it is not a socialist Iraq. The socialist press has a major problem with this. Saddam Hussein was a friend and trading partner to socialist regimes. He told his people how to think and he told his press what to say and what not to say.
Birds of a feather flock together.

Socialist press? I have been under the impression that the press, indeed almost all news media, is owned by capitalistic corporations. Could you be more specific about which of the media outlets are owned by socalists?
The elder Bush predicted that toppling Sadam would lead to extensive sivil war in Iraq. Do you think that is what is developing?

Its a possibility that civil war will consume Iraq. Like it was a possibility most of Iraq would have resisted the invasion.
But considering Saddams regime, and that some of the major reasons that Al Qaida put the US in the center of thr cross hairs to start with was issue pertaining to Iraq and the Gulf war, maybe leaving Iraq intact a decade ago wasn't such a great idea long term.
The elder Bush didn't have 9-11 nor the decade leading up to it to use as reference.

The seem to be having trouble with one cleric, but as soon as they kill him things will get better mucn faster. People are even getting passports, they haven't been able to do this in a long time. Freedom takes a while, look how long the US fought for their freedom, and Iraq will have to go through much the same process, maybe a civil war as we did before things settle down.
