What are your thoughts on selling your airplanes with an AMA number on it?
We didn't use to think about it, but with lawers and such today, is this a worry?

I bought 2 airplanes on Ebay with the # still on them. I don't think this is much of an issue in this case because, I believe, the original owner is no longer among us. The only time I put my # on a plane is if I am going to take it to a contest. The last time was the 97 NATS. I think I would remove my # before selling a plane. As soon as I test fly the Ebay planes, I will most likely recover the wings to eliminate the #'s. I don't like the idea of flying a plane with someone elses # on it, especially when they are gone.

I would think that as long as you have a bill of sale of some sort, that what numbers are on the plane would be irrevelent.
You could allways put a red slash through the old numbers with trim tape and add your own using skeletal numbers. That might look kinda kool!
A call to the AMA would yeild a definative answer if legalities are involved. Never heard of a problem though...

I posted this before, but it apparently disappeared. AMA specifies the owner's name and address or AMA number somewhere in or on the airplane. I think this is an insurance consideration and is a general thing rather than just for competition.

So, according to that, everyone should have their #'s on all their airplanes? I wonder how many people do that?

Except for indoor airplanes, you are correct. And yes, I do have a couple of airplanes with no number. (But I do feel bad about it : Jim
