I recently had a kit called the STORK [1/2 a stunt for T.D. .049] made by golden state models given to me. The kit was missing most of the wing parts [ribs, spars, l/e and t/e].I can figure out the rib pattern from the fuse cut out and the length by the fixed flaps. My problem is what to use for a l/e and spars[how big and how many].I would love to see a set of plans or any ideas on what would work.It calls for a T.D..049 engine. The wingspan is apox 36". I was think maybe useing a norvel .061.Since our flying field is being moved I was hopeing i could fly this in the back yard on maybe 40 ' lines. It has been at least 40 years since i had any thing to do with 1/2 a's type planes , so this is like teaching an old dog a new trick. Many thanks Tom

On that size 1/2A I would use a 1/4 square set on edge for the leading edge. Top and bottom 1/4 x 1/8 spars with a 1/32 web in between, and 2 pieces of 1/16 x 1 made into a V for the trailing edge. 1/16 ribs 3 in apart with false ribs between the leading edge and spar in between. No idea how the Stork wing was made.

I am currently building a Stork from the Golden State plans. The wing has no spars. The upper and lower trailing edge stock is 1/16" balsa, 3/4" wide. The leading edge uses the preformed l.e. stock that is available from most any of the balsa suppliers. The plans show the leading edge in two pieces with a piece of 1/16" ply as a joiner. I am using a single piece of l.e. I plan on hollowing out the l.e. in between the ribs in order to shave a little weight off. The bellcrank mount is 1/16" ply that runs between the first ribs on each side of the fuse. I am also using fuse mounted l.g. instead of putting them in the wing.
Hope this helps. Bill Hodges

Bill Many thanks for the info. That helps alot. Could you tell me far far back from the leading edge is the center of the bell crank? What size b/c do they show ? Where do they show the leadout exiting the wing tip? How about CG location? I was going to give it all a good guess and hope for the best .Maybe with your help and info the plane may survive more then a few laps. Again much appreciated thanks. Tom

The center of the bellcrank is 1 13/16" behind the front edge of the l.e. and 1" to the inside of the wing centerline.
The plans show a 2" bellcrank.
The front leadout exits the tip 1 7/8" behind the front edge of the l.e. The read leadout exits 1 1/16" behind the front one. I inset 1/16" tubing into the tip material for the leadouts to run through.
The CG is 1 3/8" behind the front edge of the l.e.
Glad I could help. If you have any more questions, holler.

Tom, Take the time to break in the Norvel properly. Once done, they last a long time (ie over 275 ~5+ minute flights and counting). Hope to see the Stork in the air. Maybe at our field? Roger
