Last year I had bought on of Great Planes ARF "Fling" hand gliders. It came with a "mini-hi-start" and since I had a super case of the "Bah-Humbugs" this morning, I took it out to the flightline with me. I took a Kadet Sr. too, but just didn't feel like flying it.
Anyway, we had a pretty fair turnout of retards and our very own sky-pilot, but for some reason everyone had throttle problems except the preacher, who was flying a hot .46 size Corsair that really made him look good... (or maybe it was his boss.)
While everybody else was fussing with their different alibuies, I strung out the hi-start, and then went over and sat down to wait for my turn. Since our clear ground area is VERY small and I didn't have ANY idea on how to use a hi-start , I didn't want to pin anybody with my choice of fun for the day.
My turn finally came and since only one other plane could get off the ground, they all wanted to help/watch/kibitz... all I had to do was hold onto the transmitter and steer it if and when it was airborne.
Kenny grabbed the line and started walking back. When he had a pretty good tension on the line he hooked up the lFling and flung it... straight up! Startled the peewaddlydoo outta me, folks, I had never seen one on a hi-start before since we usually use a carry plane due to the tight space we have for all that line.
It was really cool, and after the third or fourth flight, Kenny looked up at the Fling and mumbled something about "Maybe it wouldn't be all that much trouble to unwind the line from the cactus.."
Guess next week might be a little different on the flight line... JohnC
