Okay, all you glider guiders, who's got what ? Are you into Sloping, Thermal ships , Scale or what?
I kinda like them all, 'cept Slopers are hard to do down here... the flora isn't very hospitable to any type of aircraft, ya gotta land on the runway or enjoy rebuilding a lot. One of these days, though, maybe I'll get up to Tucson and see what the club that flies off of "A" Mountain has to offer.
In the meantime I'm practicing getting back to the field AND thermaling with a 2-meter Wanderer while I wait for the engine for my carry ship to come in. When it does, I'll be flying a Wanderer 99 and a kit-built B.O.T. from it. Oh, yeah, almost forgot about the two Spirit 100's I inherited a while back... just don't have the time to build them nor the room to hang 'em. JohnC

Hey John I actually have more gliders than powered planks, but I've NEVER flown a one of 'em. Tried giving some away, tried selling some, no takers...I even have a 3m PIK-20 from a Canadian company that went out of business a long time ago that no one seemed to want. Of course there's always eBay, but I might just get interested in flying them, once I figure out how to mount a 91fs to the front end...

I know what you mean, Stetto... Hi-starts are a real pain when the wind blows them into the Mesquite and Creosote that surround our field, and it seemed like an unecessary expense to buy/build a winch when I could have my cake and eat it, also.
That's why I built the carry ship (from a Kadet Senior kit). I pretty much bashed it - wingspan 89" and it weighs in at about twelve pounds. I tried a .91 FS but while it'll fly, it does it extremely grudgingly, so I'll be putting a 1.20 FS up front as soon as it gets there.
I used to be heavily involved in Archery and couldn't understand why many bow-pullers would put down all styles of shooting. I felt that they all had their merits and did fairly well with all of them.
I feel the same way about RC Flying; even if certain categories don't work too well when you average 10+ MPH winds almost everday. I'd love to try some of the electric/backyard flyers, but they probably wouldn't last very long down here. BIG planes are the norm here, (so we can watch the wind carry them away for a longer period of time). JohnC

Dangit! I forgot the 105" Minimoa that was the first thing I built when I got back into this crazy pastime! I don't know if I'll ever fly this one - unless I have it with me when I visit a turf field, that is. JohnC

I got..oh I dunno...4 or 5 downstairs. Unfortunately, only 1 is flyable and it needs to be towed up. I love the 2 meter electric powered ones for ease of getting up and flying with a reasonable endurance...although with the thunderbumpers we have around here, I could probably fly for days.....

I have slope envy so bad I can't stand it. Problem is, there are no hills within 100 miles of this swamp I live in, so trying it is not an option. There are some cool slope warbirds and jets I'd love to try. Does anyone fly slope ships off a high start?

I've got a Gentle Lady, and a quiver full of little FFHLGs.
I'm saving my bottlecaps for a Bird of Time for RES.

Wayne, I may have to do that. There are plenty of mountains back home, just nothing here.
Still looks like a lot of fun....

I've got a Blackhorse Spitfire that deadsticks a lot -- does that count? Weeeellllll, that's stretching it a little - unless it deadsticks above two hundred feet? That should qualify just about anything! JohnC

Got in some impressive negative soaring yesterday with my Florio Flyer. Used a 900' launch & deadsticked all the way down in a flat inverted spin. Recovery was somewhat problematic, but was effected at ~ 75 ' & a fast soaring landing approach was successfully completed atop a sumac bush. The next soaring flight was largely engine assisted.

I have a whole bunch of gliders, fly them every chance I get. We have a fantastic slope here that is good on three sides, North South and West. It's not so good when the wind shifts to the East. I have new Bird of Time, Saggitta 900 Sig Riser 2M Coyote sloper, Phebus scale glider, also a Diamont scale . Also we have some good thermaling. we have about 4 or 5 Histarts and 3 12 volt Winches. So anyone coming to Cody, WY be sure and throw in a glider or two, or just show up. We can sure find something for you to fly. pdalton
