Trying to apply Rudder Striping to WWI RAF SE5a and found out the hard way that Butyrate Paint does not adhere to it.
Any Ideal what works?
The covering is Worldtext Simulated Fabric (White) Finish and I need the Blue and Read Striping next. Also have decided to paint on the roundels. The Wings are Olive Green so I need a white basecoat first.

Hi Jamie,
The short answer to your problem is nitrate dope. When you have finished applying the Worldtex, shrink it and set it aside for a few days. Then shrink again and set aside for a couple days. Multiple shrinkings are necessary to stabilize the Worldtex. Then spray on a couple coats of clear nitrate dope. Nitrate dope sticks very well to Worldtex and will stiffen the fuzz around your seams and cut edges (which can be lightly sanded off). The nitrate dope will also be an excellent undercoat for Butyrate dope, polyurethane, Rustoleum and many other paints.
Just remember that nitrate dope is not fuel-proof. So, wherever you spray nitrate dope, you will have to clearcoat or colorcoat it with something fuel-proof like butyrate dope.
I use Worldtex (and the identical Colortex and Solartex) a lot. I have a few important tips about using it but I don't know how familiar you are with this stuff and I don't want to tell you things you might already know.

Hey Kevin, good to see you again!
This may sound a little cheesy, but Rustoleum spray paint from a rattle can works just fine for stuff like this. I think the same formulation also comes in tins for brushing, so you can mix up whatever color you happen to need. After it cures, it's fuelproof (except the clear and the silver) to about 15% nitro. Best of all, it's cheap and you can get it just about anywhere.
Make sure the area you're going to paint is clean. Spray on several light coats, letting each dry for a few minutes before applying the next one. Let the paint cure for about a week before exposing it to fuel.
