Finished work early today. When I picked up the kids my little boy says "Can we fly my purple kite Daddy?"
I told him I was sorry, but there wasn't enough wind for the kite.
So he says, "That's OK daddy, we can fly the airplane."

My 11 year old did that for a long time when he was younger. Every time I'd think he was ready to learn to fly, he got sidetracked by baseball, or basketball, or the drums. He still comes flying with me, just not sure if he's interested in learning how to any more.
Enjoy it while you can, Chris. My oldest son is about to graduate college, youngest daughter high school. My oldest daughter is getting married next year. They grew up too fast, and the 11 year old is getting there just as fast.
Go fly the airplanes. ;D ;D

We did, alas, we cracked it up too.
Dead stick, almost to the runway and a mesquite bush reached up and snatched the landing gear right off.

I haven't hit a tree yet, but the earth moved and got in my way once. Wiped out a perfectly good flying machine...... ;D

If you ever frequented the Scale Combat site before they made it so damn exclusive that they scared off all the casual visitors, you may have seen Jeff Weiss mentioned there. He used to put out the Air Kill short kits for combat models back when people would actually make 1/12th scale balsa models of fighters for scale combat instead of the thrown together abominations that now hold sway.
Jeff now owns Airborne Hobbies in Sacramento and his son Sam was always around the shop because both mother and father worked there. Sam was about seven and spent a lot of time on the computer that was always on and running the various versions of the Real Flight simulation program for the customers to try out and, hopefully, buy. Jeff was just happy that Sam was not underfoot and let him have the run of the shop and the computer. Sam is a pretty good kid too.
Much to Jeff's surprise, Sam taught himself how to fly the various models in the simulator and did it so well that Jeff decided to see if he could fly an actual model. He not only flew his first real model with a bare minimum of initial supervision, he was shortly beating most of the local club pilots in their monthly RC combat matches.
I have seen similar things happen when non-pilots get hold of a simulation program and spend time with it. I once had a stockbroker who flew a very expensive 747 simulation program on a very expensive computer setup at home come in and buy some 727 simulator time just to see if he could cut it. He not only cut it, he nailed it. He could have passed a proficiency check with any airline given some instruction on procedures.
My suggestion? Get 'em a Real Flight or similar program and let 'em have at it. They won't break anything and they may just blow your socks off.

The kid scares me actually. I went into the living room the other day. He had turned on the computer, typed in his username and password and launched windows media player. He was watching his favorite video which you can find here www.darehobby.com/videos/DAREDR1Riot.wmvHe is 3-1/2 and he has been up since 5:30 this morning pestering me to take him to the airport. (Yes, we are going as soon as everything comes off the chargers). Yesterday we went out and had a great aviation day. We flew the Kadet a half a dozen times. Then we went over and visited the full scale airport. Kyle got to climb in, over, around and under a Sea Fury that is being rebuilt there. Then he got to do the same with an AT-6 and a Bonanza. Finally we went over and inspected the remains of a beautiful Piper Malibu that someone had splattered last week. We also watched a Cessna 140 shoot touch and goes while everything else was going on.
