The Canadian Forces have finally retired the T-33 after 54 years of service (even longer than the Buff serving in the USAF). The RCAF/CAF operated a fleet of 656 RR Nene-powered T-birds from 1951, 168 of which eventually had various unscheduled arrivals, killing 96 pilots in the course of 54 years. Not a bad service record for a first generation jet.
I came close to digging a hole with a T-bird when I decided to explore its limiting Mach number, but happily we both survived to fly another day.
Adieu old pal.
