The flap hinges have freed up pretty well. While it's down, I might just as well do some paint touch-up and repair some loose covering. The flap hinge gap is another story.

Paint work is done. No where near perfect, but good enough. Controls are back together, covering secured, hinge line taped. Now to test fly it again.

Test flew it today. Conditions were pretty bad but it did fairly well. I'll try it again on a better day.

Thanks to my wife, I got a rare mid week flying session. I got 7 flights on the Fronkensteen. . It's not perfect, but it's so much better than before, that I am happy with it.

I went from a BY&O 12x5 to a rev-up 12x5, then to an XOAR 12x4. The XOAR did very well.

Since the Fronkensteen is tail heavy without nose weight, I am considering repowering it with an Evolution 46 I just converted to C/L. That would prove interesting.

Evolution .46 should work great if balance is correct. May have to go longer lines, but correct prop should help the flying speed.

EVO 46 will first be tested on the Tutor 2C. Then we'll see from there.

I need to prep the Fronkensteen 4 to put more flight time on it.
UPDATE: Engine mounting bolts tightened, Prop tightened. Ready to go.

Put up 6 flights today. Plane feels clumsy compared to NoblARF. Solder joint failed in fuel tank at uniflo pipe, fuel everywhere. Added nose weight, almost planted it inverted on inverted pullout of reverse wingover.

..................... Solder joint failed in fuel tank at uniflo pipe, fuel everywhere........... You are one expert at giving me the heebeegeebies! I expect to find that the rear end of the uniflo pipe was never soldered in place placing all the strain on the front solder joint. A guaranteed failure.

I hope I don't hafta cut into the Imperial's tank compartment....

This is why that on built in tanks, I always open the tanks and make sure everything is right before installing. Then I pressure test the tank THEN install. I pressure tested 3 tanks for the Fronkensteen 4, 2 were OK, 1 leaked.

No matter how hard we try things happen.

I could show you pics of older tanks where the brass tubes shattered like glass. If I am building a tank into a model that should last a while, I replace the tubes with copper and solder both ends securely to prevent vibration.

"New" replacement tank worked fairly well. With no fuel leakage, I was able to get a full pattern with several extra laps from 3 oz of fuel. The setting was slightly rich upright compared to inverted because of the tank venting. If it causes trouble, I'll just repair the original tank. The plane itself turns better than before but bobbles a little coming out of a maneuver. It might just be me. I yard darted it into the rain soaked ground and it stood there, like it was planted there. Only a broken prop. I'm not sure I have any more. Attachments:

I wasn't sure I had any more XOAR 12-4 props. I went digging and came up with 2 spares. One is now mounted on Fronkensteen 4. I need to find a better tank. Most of the tanks I have have not been modified for use on a profile. I need one around 3oz.

I came up with a decent looking 3.5 oz. uniflow tank from another wreck. I plan to try it out next Sunday.
