Tried to fly the PT-19 today. The Fox MK-6 would not start. This is the first engine to beat me in a LONG time. I have successfully bench run this engine, so I know it runs, just not today.

It seems that I had changed the NVA and never bothered to establish the proper setting. The setting was way too rich to run. The setting on this engine is critical. I ran this thing in the back yard to get the proper setting.

I flew this thing last Sunday. After adjusting the tail skid, it will barely take off from the takeoff ramp. It flies like a lead sled.

Flew this thing again today. When slowed down a little, it doesn't do too bad. Needs a little longer gear.

I have removed the Fox MK-6 and installed a Fox 40 converted to C/L. Hopefully it will be more user friendly.

Thought you might like to see a P-19 by local flyer, A.J. Polumbi. After a minor crash he re-enfoced the LG arrangement and worked out a way of having the wing removable to carry the plane in his small car. The new set-up worked wsell last week in a flying session. joe Attachments:

I ran the Fox 40 today. It won't stay running. I had 2 bad new Fox plugs in a row. I might actually have bad fuel. I'll try again later.

I yanked the Fox 40 and now have an ultra reliable Super Tigre G21 40 installed. I plan to bench run the Fox 40 later.

What is it with the Fox plugs. I too had several that lasted maybe one or two slightly rich runs.

The PT-19 gear had worked loose, so I redrilled and bushed the hole. Last flight, my partner told me that my tip weight had come loose. When I got it home, I opened the compartment and everything was where it was supposed to be, so I opened the covering and checked. I found 2 wood blocks with a 1/8" hole in the middle. They were the gear reinforcing blocks. There was no trace of glue on them. Now for plan "B".

Last time out, I managed to tear the gear out of this thing in a pancake crash. Damaged the bottom of the wing.

The pancake crash managed to break the gear mounting block. I've never seen that happen.

Flew this thing again today, 2 flights. Both were lean runs. The second run, the bolts holding the engine started to work loose. it flew better with the added tail weight.

Garf: If I may ask? What were the circumstances leading up to the crash of your PT-19? I crashed mine after only three exciting circles of the airfield. The plane went from take off & into an inside loop & then an outside loop & into a wing over & an overhead figure eight & a vertical figure eight & then inverted & unexpectedly nose into Terra Firma, while mowing the grass. My flying buddies thought I was just showing off my new plane? Ha! Ha! Ha!. The plane just wouldn't stop porpoising up & down & up & down? Do you think the plane is too tail heavy? Only damage was to the motor mount that broke loose, the wing broke in two an the center. It won't be as much work involved in putting the plane into the air as yours has been. I was using an evolution 36 motor that came with the plane and it started & pulled very well. Thanks Brian.
