The 2006 edition of the King Orange Internationals will be held on January 13th-15th in Starke, Florida (sanction application being prepared at this time).
The site is the Bradford County Fairgrounds on Highway 301 (N. Temple Ave.) just on the east edge of Starke. There will two smooth paved circles for competition and a grass area (mowed very short) large enough for several circles for practice. The paved circles may also be used for practice on Friday afternoon.
Saturday events will include Basic Stunt, Old Time, Classic and Profile Stunt. Sunday will have the PAMPA events and the KOI flyoff for the perpetual trophy.
Entry fees will be $15.00 for the first event, $10.00 for the second and $5.00 for any additional events flown.
The BOM rule will not apply and there will be no appearance points in any event.
There will be a Pilot's Choice award. One vote per registered contestant. The winning airplane must have been flown in competition during the weekend.
I will be the Contest Director. I can be contacted at 386 931-2445 or 386 445-2238 or by email at clpahodges@aol.com if you have any questions.
Of course, proof of current AMA membership is required.
No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the site at any time.
The AMA maximum line length of 70' from the centerline of the fuse to the handle will be enforced. If your lines are too long you will not be allowed to use them. Pull tests will also be conducted.
The fairgrounds manager is arranging for a live radio broadcast from the contest on Saturday. He is also advertising the event in the newspapers, on the radio and in over 100 local businesses. There will be bleachers provided for spectators and barriers to keep the spectators out of the pits/circles. There will be Starke Police officers on scene to handle traffic and the spectators. Folks, you have to understand that Starke is a small country town and we will be the biggest show in town that weekend.
The local Boy Scouts will have concessions open. The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs and the like. There will also be a coffee wagon on site during the mornings. There is also numerous eating establishments very nearby.
We will have the use of an exhibit building with restrooms and plenty of room to get indoors if the weather is chilly or wet. Vendors may also set up indoors if they desire. There is also a second restroom building on site.
We will have the use of 15 motor home parking sites on the fairgrounds with electric and water hookup. There is no dump station on site. The cost will be $20.00 per night. Please let me know at least two weeks ahead if you want a motor home site.
Starke is located about 30 minutes southwest of the former KOI site at Whitehouse Field. It is easily accesible off I-95, I-75 or I-10.
There are several motels closeby and they are listed below. Sorry, but we were unable to arrange special rates with any of them.
Budget Inn - 904 964-7143
Red Carpet Inn - 904 964-5590
Travelers Inn - 904 964-7357
Best Western - 904 964-6744
Days Inn - 904 964-7600
All of the motels are located on Highway 301 very near the contest site.
We will have a contest flyer ready shortly. Let me know if you want a copy and I will get one to you.
Warning: Do not speed through the small towns along 301. They will lighten your wallet. Nuff said?
Hope to see everyone there.
