The first barnstormer has turned from a recovering job, into a restoration. The further I go into this thing, the more contradictions i find. Whoever built this thing was a master builder. There is no doubt of that. At one point, I wondered if this thing had ever been flown. As it turns out, it has a LOT of mileage on it. I also found that it had been crashed and repaired. It had a slight bind in the controls, so when I found broken strands on the leadout wire, I decided to replace the entire control system. The controls were: a perfect bellcrank and a 1/16" music wire pushrod bent at some strange angles. I had a slightly used Fox bellcrank, so I inspected and lubricated it, and installed new leadout wire on it in the conventional manner. I also had a recycled arrowshaft pushrod with 4-40 wire on it. I then dredged up a new ball link used for 1/4 scale R/C elevators. Should be enough for this thing. Getting it in was loads of fun. More later.
