The Algonquin Areomodellers had a New Year's Day Fun Fly today --- minus 7 deg & 20 km/h north wind ---- lots of fun. I managed to get in the first flight of the day/year with my MECOA .46 powered SPAD Ski-master, thus winning a 40 oz bottle of Bacardi rum. The competition (an annual event) has the pilots lining up in front of their thoroughly cold-soaked AC, & then furiously attempting to start 'n go on the command "Start engines". The first complete circuit & successfull landing wins the prize. The Ski-master is a stubby little 48" span brute, & had never been flown before. It turned out to be quite a handfull & I spent more time pointing at odd angles than I did in level flight, However, I managed a quick circuit & successfull landing to take the prize. I actually got in 4 real flights a bit later. Fun.
