Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you and your family. All 3 of my kids made it home for the holiday season but my middle daughter had to take leave before the holidays, so she flew back to TLA (Three Letter Agency) HQ up in Ft. Meade on Thursday. We had a early Christmas for her, we dubbed it Jennimas. We had a nice meal and all. Tomorrow I'm firing up the oven early because I'm making a good sized turkey. The four of us, my son's wife and her folks, and my next door neighbor who lost his wife a few months back. I've got a big 2-leaf table but it's going to be packed. No problem, that's how it was when I was a kid and I did okay with much shorter arms than I have now. Real puzzler this year trying to find a gift for the Admiral. Last year's present - a nice trolling motor - wasn't as well received as I'd hoped, so I wanted to do better this year. I really struggled between that 3600 psi pressure washer (with Honda engine) and the chipper/shredder unit, but since we have a few of those heavy Lodge pans around here, I figured I'd go with the sewing machine. I also got her a case of .223, but I'll probably have to help her figure out what to do with it since it won't fit in any of her guns. Best Wishes to y'all for a safe and happy holiday season. Keep the fire going.

Heheh, My wife asked for 'nothing' a couple years ago after some consistent pestering of what she wanted for xmas, she must have got enough, because I gave her a lots of nothing, (I have a surplus of it myself), she has not asked for nothing since. Of course she now buys stuff, and then tells me "you are giving me this for Christmas", even had them on the able ready to wrap this year Unfortunately I think she is catching on, the last gun I bought suddenly was not THE new gun, it was HER new gun, and its seems to be trending. Anyway, enjoy the day and meal, we have kind of gotten way a from big meals like traditional turkey or roast or ham meals with just a few of us, and had a big tray of cheese and meats with crackers, cream cheese pepper jelly etc and a taco bar. I still ate myself too full. Also must have been the year for chocolate, between the stuff that was out to eat, and the gifts everyone got, we should all be 100lbs heavier and diabetic by the end of January. Have a great holiday.

Of course she now buys stuff, and then tells me "you are giving me this for Christmas", even had them on the able ready to wrap this year It must be a woman DNA thing, as I have had the same situation going on here for years. Amazing the things I get a thank you for that I have no recollection of ever buying. I keep threatening to do the same kind of thing, to maybe just get a turkey breast and slice it up, maybe a small ham sliced up and we can have a much smaller meal with no hours of cooking. But what happens is the small plan gets modified when more people get added to the list until we end up with about a dozen folks around the table and bigger meals are called for. For me, I'd make do with a nice tray of cold cuts and some good rolls, maybe a cheese and cracker tray, and I wouldn't be wanting to nod off in my chair at 4:30 in the afternoon. The holidays were good, the kids only got into a minor dust-up a few days before Christmas that bugged me a bit but I suppose if they get it all out of their system once a year that isn't too bad. After 24 hours, no ill will left between them and all was good. It was interesting to see how they have all matured yet in different ways since being out of the nest. Despite all my doubts about it over the years, they have all turned out to be good people I would happily be friends with were they not related to me. In a way, that's kind of the best present we can get. I'll bet you see the same thing in your daughter. Or you will. Happy New Year!

Sounds like that was a VERY good idea. If they had fit one of her guns...

If I had bought .223 and she had a rifle to fit it, I'd have to sign her up for a precision rifle course to get her to move into a different caliber, leaving the .223 to me. Somehow I can't picture her firing a .308 or similar round being that her shooting shoulder has dislocated a couple times in the past and she has little interest in rifles beyond her pink decor Ruger .22. I think it's been fired twice. I think of it as my extra barrel. For a while when she carried a .380 it was her not me who searched the far and wide of the internet for the best ammo deals. We ended up with a bunch of it which was okay because she was going to the range with me pretty often. Then when we took a defensive handgun course together the instructor had her try his 9mm Shield and she shot the hell out of the course with it, then wanted little to do with the .380 anymore. She still carries a Shield today but doesn't shoot as much as she used to. The .380 got sold to a friend along with cases of ammunition for it. As far as targeting me with any of that ammo, she knows full well that she'd have to mow all that lawn and check her own tires for proper inflation if anything happened to me, and if there's one person on the planet who hates cutting grass more than I do it'd be her. It remains a mystery to me how she can go around checking people's blood pressure all day long but can't seem to master a tire pressure gauge. Still, she's kept me around for 39 years now and it can't be my looks, it must be my fine taste in holiday gift selections.

Its like one of those gifts like giving her a chainsaw, you better hope she doesn't learn to use it, or you become redundant.

You are such an inspiration, Honcho! With a 40th anniversary coming up this year maybe it's time to look at a really nice saw (for her). I like Stihl saws and that MS-362 C-M sure looks like a dandy piece of gear. 59cc microprocessor controlled engine, compensates for temperature, elevation, etc. Slings a 3/8" chain and can handle a 25" bar with ease. I know she'd LOVE to own one of those.
I've got plenty of time to shop around and find the best price, too. Thanks, Honcho, it would have taken me a couple months to think up such an elegant gift for such a special occasion.
