That's extremely common in these cases, Honcho - the thinking they missed meals and such. Just yesterday, an hour after she got home, my wife was on the phone with a nurse from work who was asking if so-and-so got their evening meal. Sure did, but 2.5 hrs later believed otherwise. Same thing happens with medications, and that's one of the primary reasons people end up in assisted care because they'll under or overdose themselves because they simply can't remember or truly believe what isn't the case.
Falling is another primary reason for assisted care. It's so common in these folks that at my wife's facility there has to be at least two staff in the common areas at all times. They'll have people come back from hip surgery because they tried to walk unassisted (walker or chair or human) and ended up hitting the deck, then first thing after they're back they try getting up and trying it again. Some of them just don't realize they can't walk, especially if they're delusional and think they're 25 or something.
I know it's a depressing and very sad thing to have to put a loved one into a facility for the care they need but you're doing the right thing for him. Oh, he ain't gonna like it, maybe will never see the logic in it, but the alternative is even sadder and I'll leave that to your imagination.

Oh he has been struggling with medications for a while. My wife has been doing his pills for about a year now because he can't keep it straight, and may have been why he ended up in the hospital to start with last year. They did test him yesterday, and he scored in the dementia range. He had been almost childlike , but he is starting to feel a little better and now is getting demanding and argumentative, getting angry when people tell him he has done things or been told things he can't remember. I know its all classic symptoms, but my wife is having a hard time dealing with them at times, its just wearing on her.
She is worried they might try and send him home if he improves, he is a world class BSer and came home before just to repeat everything all again. Though this time he was noticeably worse, and there is documentation instead of just us telling them how he really is while he sits there and lies like a politician about what he does at home and how he can handle taking care of himself. It probably has caught up with him now, but its still a struggle to get people to listen, particularly his doctor who is far too accommodating to his whims, yet not really helpful at all IMO. Now he has to be released by the physical therapist and cognitive speech therapist or whatever she was called, so it may be out of his hands finally.
