Generally I have had excellent luck in my on-line business dealings. The product was as advertised, delivered on time and any discrepancies or damages were adjusted cheerfully and quickly. With one exception.
That exception is Soaring Stuff.com in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The owner's name is Taylor Collins... at least that's what the website claims. Anyway, here's the facts up to now.
On August 20, 2004 I placed a small order for some hardware for a couple of sailplanes I'm getting ready to fly. I used plastic over the "secure" site and received a confirmation e-mail in less than an hour's time.
A week later I hadn't heard from anybody so I called , thinking that I could at least get some idea on delivery time. Except I couldn't get an answer. Over the next 4-5 days I called two separate numbers several times each at different times of the day and evening and emailed them several times with absolutely no return calls or emails.
When I inquired on a couple of other forums, I was told that it seems that this gentleman has a habit of answering his phone and email when he gets around to it and the same goes for his merchandise. Evidently he's heavily into the video sales scene and does his own editing, ect. with end result that he seems to think he's a hot shot producer (their call, not mine). At any rate, his track record for shipping is below par, to say the least.
I have contacted the New Mexico BBB and received a reply back from them by email yesterday saying that they would follow up for me, so we'll see what happens now. Even then, all they can do is try to contact him and hope he is around somewhere.
Fortunately the order wasn't even $25.00, so it's not going to break me, but it's the general idea that this guy figures he can run a "business" in such a shoddy manner and get away with it.. I have an at-home business, myself and value my customers far more than to just ignore them like Taylor Collins has ignored me ( and evidently quite a few more)
Right now I'm just going to wait to see what the Better Business Bureau can do, but at the moment, my advice is to order from somebody other than Soaring Stuff! JohnC
