This is what i call the hardest engine i have ever broke in as of now a GMS 47 have been running this engine for 3 days start stop used 1 gal of fuel so far and still woint trust it in my plane seams like it still not ready every time i refuel to start it fires right up but has sudden sound changes so rejust here i go.was just wondering if this is normal for this engine

I'm sorry to say -- yes. They take a long time to break-in.
Some are great & some suck. Hopefully you have a good one,because the bad ones are are just plain awfull -- lean-out in flight, flame-outs, won't idle reliably, or conversely, won't shut off.
You can usually fix the duds by swapping the carb for a TT or OS carb.

Worse yet i was looking at the carb locking screw that holds the carb on and there is no head how do you remove the carb usely there is a hex head or a philps head on most engines but not this one grgrgrgrgr what a pain i need a good motor lollol

It is held in by a draw-bar. Loosen the hex nut below the carb to allow the draw-bar to "float" then pull the carb straight up.

after that, throw it in the garbage and get an OS or TT pro. I hate GMS engines. I have two that are now paper weights. Cheap engines.........for a reason....

I always say that no engine manufacturer can market an engine that won't run, at least not for long. Therefore, there must be modelers out there that can consistently get these to run reliably and consistently...I don't happen to know any of them, but they MUST be out there...

Well i cleared out all my 2 c engines but the ones that i trusted the GMS47 went first never did get it to run right sold it but i still have 2 that i have had for a long time but run great one is a HB 61 drone engine and a magnum 40 GP that i would never sell runs to good from day one

If you look in the glow-engine forum on RCU, there is a GMS tuning problem thread that runs 13 pages. Fixes include: changing carbs, surgery to stock carbs, changing mufflers, addding pumps, etc. etc. --- Great little engines.

Britbrat i did read all the post at RCU way before i sold the gms 47 the motor i had was new and a piece of grrrrrrrr anyway i did not buy the engine to have to mod it just to get it to run i am glad i still have my older engines the HB 61 -1992 runs fine and i mean wonderful and the magnum 40 gp is a great engine i only need two 2c engines plus my two-4c engines one is new and one old but do not need any others tell i move to gas and iam reading all the info on the gas engines that are out there i will have to learn all over again just to move up to gas know nothing about these engines 140-240 or larger

I have a GMS .61 in my Top Flite Score, with over fifty flights on it, and it took about 1/2 Gal of fuel run through it while in flight, to settle in, and has never given me any . I guess I was one of the lucky ones ;D , who had bought the GMS motor used, Off eBay, but had only been benched run, and was like new. I don't know whether to take another chance , on buying another GMS engine. I might not be so lucky the next time. I'm using a Webra .61 on my Tutor II , and haven't had any problem with that motor either , and it settled in after only a quart on fuel, was run through it on the bench first, then flown, to complete the break in.

I said goodby to my Tutor II, as the bellcrank leadout wire broke on the down side, and then plowed it in!
