I keep seeing catalogs with all these R/C ARF's in them that resemble the early C/L models. The fun fly and 3D models look like they could be converted to C/L with minimal reengineering. Has anyone tried this yet?

They seem to be pretty much like early combat planes so they should fly OK if you can keep the weight down. I've done things in the other direction though by building a CL stunter as an RC model (flaps as ailerons and tailplane straight off a crashed stunter). It flew beautifully with absolutely no vices. Squares were a bit more open because of the higher wing loading though. I never did try a reverse wingover......

My all time favorite C/L model was a TF Smoothie -- is it still available? I would love to do an RC Smoothie.

The original was from Veco. The kit is now available from Brodak, soon to be a C/L ARF.

My brain is obviously faulty -- I rememberted it as a TF model -- must be confusing with one of the Flightstreaks.

Top Flite had the Nobler, Tudor, Flight Streak, Super Combat Streak, etc. Veco had the Chief, Thunderbird, Smoothee, Warrior, Brave, Tomahawk, Tom Tom, and many more.

At the last R/C flea market I picked up a small 3D model and I will try to convert it to C/L. It just might work.
